Commissioning Technician - Level I


Title: Commissioning Technician – Level I
Department(s): Commissioning
Reports to: Commissioning Director

Job Summary

The Commissioning Technician I will work within a team to perform required system inspections on commercial PV power plants. Assist with inspections and electrical testing. Document all inspection findings and test results. Communicate inspection findings and test results with Commissioning Manager. Document and assist with PV system trouble shooting and corrective actions.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Properly take voltage and current readings using an electrical multi-meter
  • Installation of electrical PVC conduit and wiring
  • Build equipment racking structures and mount enclosures
  • Verify calibration date of all testing equipment utilized
  • Review and understand site electrical drawings for utility scale PV plants
  • Terminate and connect RJ-45 Cat 6 connectors according to drawings
  • Understand and utilize single line diagrams for installation of instrument wiring, transformer alarm sensor wiring, and revenue meter wiring
  • Ability to understand and navigate basic computer functions
  • Work closely with supervisor on installation of all DAS/SCADA components used on utility scale PV plants
  • Read and understand all equipment manuals before beginning commissioning process on any equipment within site
  • Properly operate IRT (megtester) and record and understand results
  • Properly operate IV curve tracer and record and understand results
  • Any and all other responsibilities associated with initial powerup and commissioning of utility scale Plants

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED with minimum of 3 years of Solar Commissioning/electrical experience
  • Must be able to read and understand Electrical PV Drawings
  • Basic understanding of PV electrical systems
  • NFPA 70e certification
  • Previous experience on commercial construction projects preferred
  • Proven commitment to Safety and building relationships team
  • Ability to complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work well with others
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Valid government Issued Driver’s License and reliable transportation to and from work
  • Eligible to work in the US, pass a criminal/civil background check, drug screen and motor vehicle records search
